The Shrine of Admiral Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse "Prince of Chumphon"
Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumphon , was a pivotal figure in the foundation of Thailand’s modern navy. Revered by naval personnel, he is affectionately known as “Sadet Tia” or “Mor Phon” , titles that reflect his close ties to the people and his work in medicine and naval training. Recognized officially in 2001 as the “Father of the Royal Thai Navy,” he laid the groundwork for naval administration and strategic organization in Thailand. After his passing, a total of 217 shrines and monuments have been erected across Thailand to honor Admiral Prince Abhakara’s legacy. These sites serve as places for the public and naval officers alike to pay respects, reflecting his enduring influence and the profound respect he commands as a national figure dedicated to Thailand’s defense and maritime development.
