Monument of Memory

This sculpture, created by Professor Emeritus Khemrat Kongsood, National Artist in Visual Arts (Sculpture) in 2012, was crafted in 1995. It received the gold medal at the 41st National Art Exhibition.

The sculpture "Chuti"

The sculpture titled “Chuti” (The Arrival) incorporates the form of the lotus flower as a symbol, representing the growth and flourishing of wisdom. The lotus is deeply connected to Thai Buddhists, as it has long been associated with purity and enlightenment in Buddhist teachings. This connection is especially significant because His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great was a devout Buddhist and governed according to the Ten Virtues of Kingship (Dasa Rajadhamma), embodying the principles of a righteous ruler (Dhammaraja) who brought peace and prosperity to his people throughout his reign.

The artwork features low-relief sculptures depicting key moments from the King’s life, reflected on water droplets resting on lotus petals beneath a royal umbrella (chatra). The materials used in this piece include metals such as gold, copper, silver, and niello, as well as colored glass resembling gemstones. These materials were chosen for their symbolic significance and were crafted through a unique creative process by the artist, reflecting both the sacredness of the lotus in Buddhist art and its connection to the King’s reign.
