Phra Phuttha Maha Lap: The Prototype of Phra Phuttha Mahidol Mongkol Panya Yan

Phra Phuttha Maha Lap, the original model for Phra Phuttha Mahidol Mongkol Panya Yan, features a Tai Yai-style adorned Buddha image, lacquered in gold leaf and embellished with gemstones. The statue measures 16 inches across the lap, with a base length of 18 inches, width of 13 inches, and height of 33 inches. Venerable Phra Thep Pariyat Mongkol, the abbot of Wat Chong Kham, presented this sacred statue to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on November 26, 1989.

"Phra Phuttha Mahidol Mongkol Panya Yan"

A replica of Phra Phuttha Mahidol Mongkol Panya Yan was enshrined at the Faculty. Subsequently, on March 23, 2021, Professor Dr. Piyamitr Sritara, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, assigned the Ramathibodi Archives and Museum Unit to oversee the preservation and maintenance of the statue. This ensures that faculty members, students, and the general public have the opportunity to pay their respects and worship the Buddha statue during various occasions within the Faculty.

With unparalleled compassion

With unparalleled compassion, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously bestowed her personal Buddha statue, named “Phra Phuttha Maha Lap,” to serve as the Buddha image for Mahidol University.
